The digestivo that finally incited me to create this blog is an old classic and all-time favorite, Strega. After a dinner at the house of friend of La Ragazza (a beautiful, enthusiastic digestivo drinker) last week, I was dying for something to make that second plate of Lasagna sit a bit better in my stomach, so I asked our host for a nip of something-anything- and to my surprise she opened up a cabinet full of amari I’d never tried before. Unfortunately none were actually open so I went for the Strega, which I happily consumed for the rest of the night.
Meaning “Witch” in Italian and produced in the hometown of my great-grand mother, Benevento, this digestivo starts off smooth but finishes with a potent minty after taste. I prefer my Strega chilled in the freezer so that I can enjoy it in all of its golden, viscous splendor.
